BACKGROUND NOISE, LLC: THE GAME

ORIGIN STORY

The idea was inspired after a late night 24-hour hospital shift during Dr. Patricia Marsh's Family Medicine residency. She was in the hospital watching a late night game show of improv comedy. Inspired, Dr. Marsh thought of an idea of using improv prompts for composers of film and television to make music, thus, BGN LLC's game was birthed. After finishing the long hospital shift, Dr. Marsh wrote all the rules and instrumentation to be randomized for your creative compositions. Even the name of the game was inspired by the infamous "background noise" of John Williams' scores for the Star Wars franchise.

There are 2 Modes of the Game:

Competition Mode: Players (2 minimum) Compose a 120 second piece with the combination of categories with an agreed release date

  • Winning: Post your pieces on social media and whoever has the most likes after a week wins the competition

Individual Mode: Compose a 120 second piece with the combination of categories automated or selected manually

  • Post your piece on social media to let the world hear your creative sounds

Instrumentation: The instrumentation follows the basic full orchestra instrumentation with "wild cards" (eg. ukulele, electric guitar, organ).

Genre and Setting: A genre of film or TV is chosen, as well as a setting of where the composition would be played

Using a combination of all these prompts, BGN LLC GAME will inspire and even educate future film and television composers. So get out your Sibelius or MuseScore and create sounds that will forever change the world.
